The Union home ministry on Tuesday declined a direct reply to DMK MP and former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran’s query in Rajya Sabha whether the government had used Israeli spy software to tap WhatsApp calls and messages, but placed it on record that the government’s power to intercept phones and computer resources could only be exercised as per provisions of law, rules and standard operating procedures.
