Michelle Troconis, the former girlfriend of Fotis Dulos, has been found guilty on all counts in connection to the disappearance and presumed murder of Jennifer Dulos. The verdict comes after a lengthy trial that captivated the nation and shed light on the complexities of domestic violence and manipulation.
Troconis was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder, tampering with evidence, and hindering prosecution. The evidence presented during the trial painted a damning picture of her involvement in the crime, including surveillance footage showing her disposing of evidence related to Jennifer's disappearance.
Troconis was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder, tampering with physical evidence, conspiracy to commit tampering with physical evidence and hindering prosecution.
"We have lost a mother, daughter, sister, cousin, and cherished friend," Carrie Luft, a spokeswoman for Jennifer Dulos' family and friends, said in a statement Friday.
Luft said the "verdict represents the meticulous collection, analysis, and presentation of evidence to illuminate an unconscionable series of crimes."
After deliberating for about 14 hours, the jury of three men and three women found Troconis guilty of conspiracy to commit murder, tampering with evidence and hindering the prosecution.
Specifically, the jury found that she conspired with Fotis Dulos to murder his estranged wife, lied to provide an alibi for him and helped him dispose of bloody evidence.
Jennifer Dulos was last seen in May 2019 after dropping her children off at school. Friends reported her missing after she failed to show up for appointments and had no communication with them for 10 hours. She was in the middle of a contentious divorce and custody battle with Fotis Dulos at the time of her disappearance, CNN has previously reported.
Despite her body never being found, Dulos was officially pronounced dead through a declaration of death by a Connecticut judge in October 2023, a court document shows. She likely suffered a combination of “traumatic, blunt-force injuries,” according to the state’s chief medical examiner.
While the Troconis family did express sympathy for Jennifer’s orphaned kids, they believe Michelle is paying the price unfairly.
“The mystery will continue because to put her in jail. It’s not that, oh, Jennifer appear. No, we, nobody still knows what happened to her, but she’s not the one that knows. She never knew,” said Marisela Arreaza, Michelle’s mother.
Absent from the courtroom Friday was Michelle’s daughter. She was informed of the verdict shortly after it came down.
