The CIF Southern California Regional tournaments in high school basketball and soccer got underway this week with three teams from La Jolla Country Day School participating. The first-round news was good for the Torreys’ girls basketball team, the No. 4 seed in Division I, which defeated No. 13 Orange Lutheran 64-42 on Feb. 27. The victory followed the Torreys’ 63-56 loss to Mission Hills on Feb. 24 in the CIF San Diego Section Open Division title game. Country Day will play in Round 2 of the regionals at home at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 29, against fifth-seeded Orangewood Academy of Garden Grove, which beat No. 12 Monache of Porterville 63-44 in the first round.
