Bridgit Mendler, best known for her acting and singing career, has recently made headlines with the launch of her new outer space communications startup. The company, named Celestial Connect, aims to revolutionize the way we communicate with astronauts and satellites in orbit.
Mendler's passion for technology and innovation has driven her to pursue this ambitious venture. With a team of experts in aerospace engineering and telecommunications, Celestial Connect is poised to make significant advancements in the field of space communications.
"The other news I wanted to share is I’m a mama to a sweet 4yo boy. Started fostering in 2021 adopted near Christmas of 2022. I’m so lucky — being a parent is the biggest gift and most defining experience there is. That’s my news for now folks," her tweet read.
While this is the first time that Mendler opened up about becoming a mother, she told CNBC she "completely fell in love with space law" while working at the Federal Communications Commission's Space Bureau.
"Space is getting easier along so many different dimensions, but still, the actual exercise of sending data to and from space is difficult. You have difficulty finding an access point for contacting your satellite," she told CNBC.
Rather than build rockets or satellites, Northwood aims to mass produce ground stations. Also known as teleports, ground stations are the typically large and often circular antennas that connect to satellites in space.
Already, Northwood is attracting high-profile venture investors, with about $6 million in initial funding raised from investors including Founders Fund, Andreessen Horowitz and Also Capital.
Mendler played Teddy Duncan on Disney’s Good Luck Charlie from 2010 to 2014 and appeared as recurring character Juliet on Wizards of Waverly Place from 2008 to 2012. Mendler also starred as Kristen in the 2008 film The Clique, based on the novel by Lisi Harrison, and played Olivia in the hit Disney Channel Original Movie Lemonade Mouth in 2011.
While some may be skeptical of Mendler's ability to lead a tech company, her determination and drive have already proven that she is more than capable of taking on this new challenge. As she continues to make strides in the world of space exploration, it is clear that Bridgit Mendler's star will continue to rise in this exciting new chapter of her career.
