Jim Harbaugh, the former head coach of the San Francisco 49ers and the University of Michigan Wolverines, has recently been appointed as the new head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers. This decision has sparked excitement among football enthusiasts and raised expectations for a team that has struggled in recent years.
Harbaugh's track record speaks for itself. During his tenure with the 49ers, he led them to three consecutive NFC Championship games and a Super Bowl appearance. His ability to develop young quarterbacks like Colin Kaepernick showcased his talent for nurturing talent and maximizing player potential. Similarly, at Michigan, he turned around a struggling program and brought them back into national prominence.
Michigan offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore will become the next head coach for the Wolverines. The guys examine what Sherrone Moore can do to improve the program the season after winning a national championship.
With Harbaugh gone, the NCAA is left with some decisions to make Michigan’s alleged recruiting & cheating violations. The crew debates what punishments would be appropriate for Michigan, and more importantly, if the NCAA will be able to enforce any punishments that would be more than just a slap on the wrist.
Before taking over at Michigan in 2015, Harbaugh coached the San Francisco 49ers for four seasons, going 44-19. He went to three straight NFC championship games, losing to Baltimore and his brother John in Super Bowl XLVII.
The Chargers and Ravens are scheduled to play each other in 2024, with the date yet to be determined. Jim Harbaugh's introductory press conference with the Chargers is scheduled for Tuesday.
Clearly, Harbaugh was referring to Herbert’s undeniable skills and seemingly still untapped potential at the position Harbaugh once played for the Chargers and several other NFL teams. Herbert was named the Associated Press offensive rookie of the year in 2020 and made the Pro Bowl the following season. He was second in the league for yards passing in 2021 and 2022 and has completed 66% of his passes for 17,223 yards with 114 touchdowns and 42 interceptions.
The Chargers posted a clip of Harbaugh’s comment on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday and wrote “we’d be starstruck too.”
