The highly anticipated game between the Grizzlies and the Lakers ended with a decisive victory for the former, with a final score of 127-113. The Grizzlies showcased their dominance throughout the game, leaving no room for doubt about their superiority on the court.
From the very beginning, it was evident that the Grizzlies were determined to secure a win. Their offensive strategy was flawless, with players like Ja Morant and Jonas Valančiūnas leading the charge. Morant's lightning-fast drives to the basket left Lakers defenders scrambling to keep up, while Valančiūnas's powerful presence in the paint made it nearly impossible for opponents to score.
It was the 10th loss in 13 games and a fourth consecutive defeat for Los Angeles. The contest put the Lakers' issues on full display, as they gave up a season-high 23 3-pointers. To make matters worse, Memphis ranks last in the league for 3-point shooting percentage this season. Still, the Lakers had an opportunity to win with the score tied after the third quarter. But it all came crashing down when the Grizzlies outscored the Lakers by 14 points in the fourth.
This reported comment from James has been very controversial on social media for a couple reasons. While some are debating the accuracy of it, that has been less of a conversation than the impact it might have in the locker room. The Lakers are of course not playing well, which has a lot to do with their underperforming complimentary pieces, but some have felt that James is putting his underperforming teammates on blast with this comment.
On the other side of that argument, people have said that James is not individually calling out which teammates his son could outperform right now, but instead making a broad statement about how poor the Lakers are playing as a unit. Additionally, while this comment from James was made within earshot of media members, the initial reporter made its clear that it was said during Anthony Davis' media availability, and not directly to reporters during James' own postgame media session.
During the third quarter, Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins got a technical foul for stepping onto the court during play to argue about a no-call during a loose ball scramble between James and Jackson.
Jenkins impeded Taurean Prince leading the Lakers' fast break the other way and then fought aggressively to get past his assistants as they held him back from the officials, but Jenkins somehow wasn't ejected. Jenkins said he apologized to Ham for interrupting play.
