Reports: G League player Chance Comanche admitted to killing woman in Las Vegas after arrest

The recent news of former Stockton G League player, Chance Comanche, admitting to the murder of a woman in Las Vegas has sent shockwaves through the sports community. This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder that even those we admire and look up to can have dark secrets lurking beneath the surface.

Comanche's arrest and subsequent confession have raised questions about the pressures faced by professional athletes and the toll it can take on their mental health. The intense scrutiny and constant pressure to perform at their best can lead some individuals down a dangerous path. It is crucial for sports organizations to prioritize mental health support for their athletes, ensuring they have access to resources that can help them cope with stressors in healthy ways.

Comanche, once a promising basketball talent, now finds himself entangled in a web of suspicion and intrigue. The victim, identified as John Roberts, was found dead in his apartment last week. Authorities quickly connected the dots to Comanche after discovering evidence linking him to the crime scene.

Rodgers' boyfriend and a childhood friend told Las Vegas Metropolitan Police that Harnden and Rodgers had an altercation days before Rodgers' disappearance, according to the Declaration of Warrant/Summons for Comanche.

They said in police interviews that Rodgers and Harnden knew each other through their work as prostitutes, according to detectives.

Harnden "allegedly implicated her boyfriend, Iosua, in a double murder in California. [Harnden] was upset at [Rodgers] for telling other people that [Harnden] had implicated her boyfriend in the murder," the court document stated.

The 6-foot-10 Comanche and his former girlfriend Sakari Harnden, 19, worked in tandem to choke Marayna Rodgers, 23, early Dec. 6, hours after the Stockton Kings played the NBA G League Ignite in Henderson, Nevada, according to a Las Vegas police affidavit supporting the arrest.

Comanche was taken into custody last week in Sacramento before he was read his Miranda rights, spoke to Las Vegas police detectives and explained the plot, the affidavit said.

Harnden and the victim were both sex workers, with the former having an ongoing beef with Rodgers over a Rolex watch, police said.

Comanche, 27, was in Las Vegas with the Stockton Kings for a game against the G League Ignite on Dec. 5 — the day before the alleged murder. The 6-foot-10 forward has appeared in one NBA game in his career, which he did last season with the Portland Trail Blazers. Comanche went undrafted out of Arizona in 2017, and has spent time in the G League, The Basketball League and playing in Turkey. He had averaged 14 points and seven rebounds in 13 games with the Stockton Kings this season.
