NFL Week 11: Cowboys vs. Panthers

The Cowboys continued their domination of the Giants in 2023 with a 49-17 beatdown at home against their NFC East rivals.

Lucky for Dallas, their schedule continues to be favorable as they move from beating a two-win Giants team to a trip to North Carolina to take on the 1-8 Panthers. Carolina enters this game as the NFL's sole one-win team and one that is 0-6 in conference play.

Dallas' defense did take a big hit this week. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed that linebacker Leighton Vander Esch will not return this season because of his neck injury.

"Linebackers are a position of strength for us," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. "But he can't be replaced. It's a significant loss for us."

On the other side of the ball, the scrutinized "Texas Coast Offense" hopes to keep the positive momentum after a commanding 49-17 win over the New York Giants in Week 10. Quarterback Dak Prescott completed an impressive 26-of-35 passes for 404 yards and four touchdowns.

Barno's was at least somewhat defensible, as he was flagged for tackling a scrambling Dak Prescott as he slid, on the borderline of what gets called sometimes and what doesn't. Williams' penalty on the other hand was bizarre, as he just pushed Cowboys receiver KeVontae Turpin down from behind at the end of a play.

It was unnecessary at any point. Against a team that scored 49 last week and is among the league's most efficient offensively when it was a one-score game, it was wholly unnecessary.

The Panthers continued to play reasonably well on defense, but they're being put in positions where they have to play perfectly. That's unsustainable against an opponent of this caliber.

Carolina has hitched their wagon to rookie quarterback Bryce Young and it hasn’t been a smooth ride. Their offense is one of the lowest scoring units in the NFL, and their defense is not good enough to carry the team. Head coach Frank Reich is already on the hot seat and needs to string together some wins to keep his job.

The Cowboys are in the middle of an offensive explosion with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb playing as well as anyone in the league. Keep an eye on Micah Parsons this week. After he was basically shut out of the fun last week against the Giants, the Lion will want to eat this week.
