The group of death in the Champions League hasn't been kind to Milan as after a 3-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain, they now sit bottom of Group F without a win in three matches. Despite that, advancement is in Milan's hands due to how the group is shaping up.
Only four points separate PSG in first from Milan in fourth but more importantly, Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle United are both on four points, two ahead of Milan. This makes the reverse fixture with PSG important, but facing Dortmund and Newcastle again will be critical.
Randal Kolo Muani got PSG's second and substitute Lee Kang-in completed the rout in the 89th minute, but the home side could've (and probably should've) prevailed by an even wider margin. Milan — which again started American duo Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah — had its moments, most notably a near miss by Rafael Leão that was set up by a seeing-eye pass by Pulisic, and another play between Pulisic and Olivier Giroud that somehow didn't end with the ball in the net. Overall, though, the night belonged to PSG, which now sits all alone back in first place in Group F. Milan, still looking for its first win, is last. The must-watch rematch in Italy is Nov. 7.
France forward Mbappé broke the deadlock with a clever low shot before the break, before Kolo Muani doubled the advantage in the second half after some fine play by their national team partner Ousmane Dembele.
Lee Kang-in added a third in the last minute for good measure.
While it was not an easy affair in the first half, Luis Enrique's side prevailed to be on six points from three games, two ahead of Borussia Dortmund who claimed a 1-0 win at Newcastle United.
AC Milan, who have now failed to score in five consecutive Champions League games and netted only once in their last four competitive matches, are bottom of the group on two points.
While PSG have been a strong side at home, traveling isn't among their strong suits. Only winning two of their last five away matches in all competitions, it gives Milan a chance to pounce and turn the group upside down. Just one victory would pull them within one point of the Parisians so all hope isn't even close to lost. Pioli does need to get the team ticking in Europe like they tick in Italy sooner than later but if they can do that, advancement is still in the cards.
