Columbia Man Arrested, Major Injuries to Himself & Discovery Bay Woman in Hwy 4 Collision ...Middle East

Douglas Flat, CA…Mark Garcia, was traveling westbound on SR-4, approaching Batten Road. Nicole Rieg, was traveling eastbound on SR-4, just east of Batten Road, approaching Garcia’s location. For an unknown reason, Garcia allowed his vehicle to travel to the left of the center line of the roadway, into the eastbound traffic lane, directly into the path of Rieg’s vehicle. The two vehicles collided head on. Both parties were trapped in their vehicles and had to be extricated by emergency personnel. Both parties sustained major injuries as a result of this collision and they were transported by helicopter to Modesto Area Hospitals. Alcohol and/or drugs appear to be a factor in the collision and
