Pedestrian deaths on American roads have risen by more than 70 percent since 2010, an increase that safe-streets advocates ascribe partly to our national love affair with trucks.  Vehicles struck and killed 7,388 pedestrians in 2021, compared to 4,302 in 2010, according to federal crash data tabulated by The Hill.
