The Lebanese Caretaker Minister of Telecommunication threatened on Thursday that the Lebanese Army could take over the state internet company amid an escalating dispute between company leadership and striking workers. In a radio interview Thursday, Telecom Minister Johnny Corm said that he was asked by PM Najib Mikati for the "intervention of the army and completely turn over Ogero [to the army]." "I can't accept that citizens are taken hostage. The internet is necessary and basic for the continuity of life and any interruption is prohibited," Corm added.
