CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- As of Tuesday afternoon, only one person remains in the hospital following a mass shooting that shook the Mountain View community over the weekend, according to the FBI and local law enforcement.
The shooting, which happened during a late-night house party, left one man dead and 11 others injured. The violence broke out around 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, June 1, at a home on Walnut Acres Drive in Catawba County. Authorities said more than 80 shots were fired.
The sole confirmed fatality was Shawn Patrick Hood, 58, of Lenoir. Among the 11 injured, some were shot, while others were hurt trying to escape the chaos, the sheriff's office said.
Victims range in age from just 16 to 57 years old.
While four people were still hospitalized on Monday, the FBI confirmed on Tuesday with Queen City News that only one person remains under medical care.
Sheriff looking for related video
No arrests have been made, and the identities of the shooters are still unknown. Investigators believe multiple weapons were used and suspect more than one person opened fire.
Now, law enforcement is asking for the community’s help.
Catawba County Sheriff Don Brown is urging homeowners and businesses near the scene to check their surveillance cameras for anything unusual from the night of May 31 into the early hours of June 1. Officials are especially interested in video from:
Highway 127 Huffman Farm Road Pittstown RoadIf you have footage from those areas, the sheriff’s office asks that you call 828-464-3112.
FBI offering a $15,000 reward
The FBI has also launched a secure website for anyone with photos or videos from the party to upload digital evidence. They're hoping that cell phone clips, security footage, or even social media posts might help them identify those responsible. A $15,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the shooters.
Deputies had initially responded to a noise complaint around 11 p.m., spoke with people at the home, and left. Less than two hours later, the scene turned deadly.
The house party was believed to have had over 100 attendees, many possibly high school-aged. More than 70 people have been interviewed so far, and the investigation continues with help from the FBI, the State Bureau of Investigation, and Hickory Police.
