The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office said Mitchell should be considered “armed and dangerous,” and they are asking the public for help in locating him. Anyone with information on Mitchell’s whereabouts is asked to call 828-464-3112.

What we know so far

The shooting happened early Sunday morning, June 1, at a crowded house party in the Mountain View area. More than 80 shots were fired, which had drawn close to 100 people.

Shawn Patrick Hood, 58, was killed, and 11 others were hurt. Investigators believe the gunfire came from multiple shooters positioned on a hillside behind a neighbor’s house.

Who has been charged?

Three suspects are now tied to the case:

Garon Nathaniel Killian, 20, was charged earlier this week with attempted first-degree murder. Despite a prior arrest in April for another shooting, Killian was given a $200,000 bond Toland Huff Jr., 20, and Ke’andre O’Neal Mack, 19, have also been charged with attempted first-degree murder and are currently wanted. Huff is considered armed and dangerous and has a violent criminal record Now, Izaiah “Zae” Mitchell is being sought in a separate armed robbery case, and authorities believe he may also be tied to the mass shooting Photos: Toland Huff Jr. (left) Garon Nathaniel Killian (center) Ke’andre O’Neal Mack (right) CCSO

Party organizers facing charges

Two men who allegedly helped organize the party have been charged by the NC Alcohol Law Enforcement Division:

Raekwon Malik Craig – currently held without bond, due in court June 5 Patrick Tolbert – given a $10,000 bond, court date July 14

They each face three counts of aiding underage alcohol possession. Investigators said many were underage, and they’re also looking into whether “entry fees” were charged.

Sheriff slams the system

At a Wednesday news conference, Sheriff Don Brown expressed frustration that Killian will be able to post bond and potentially be out on the streets.

“He should’ve never been out after Hickory Police charged him in April,” Brown said.

Investigators said they haven’t found a clear link between the April incident and Sunday’s mass shooting, but haven’t ruled anything out.

Possible gang ties and reward offered

While not officially confirmed as gang-related, the sheriff acknowledged that some suspects have known gang affiliations. The FBI is offering a $15,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those still at large. Residents and businesses are asked to review security footage from May 31–June 1 near these locations:

Highway 127 Huffman Farm Road Pittstown Road Bethel Church Road

Photos and tips can be submitted directly to the FBI or by contacting the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office at 828-464-3112.
