Northern Colorado hurdler Jerome advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the second time in two years Friday with a school-record time in an NCAA first-round meet at Texas A&M University.

Campbell ran the 110-meter hurdles in 13.23 seconds at the NCAA West meet in College Station, Texas, lowering his own school record by seven hundredths of a second. He set the school record of 13.30 seconds at the NCAA West meet last year at the University of Arkansas.

A junior from Jamaica, Campbell finished fourth overall in the quarterfinals to advance to NCAAs June 11-14 at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. The top 12 athletes in individual events qualify for Eugene.

University of Texas junior Kendrick Smallwood was the top quarterfinal qualifier in the 110 hurdles from the west region. He finished in 13.13 seconds. Texas A&M’s Ja’Qualon Scott (13.16) was second and Houston senior Jamar Marshall was third (13.19).

Campbell ran 13.40 seconds and was fourth in the first round Thursday to reach the quarterfinals.

Campbell finished seventh in the 110-meter hurdles in his debut at the outdoor NCAA championships last year.

Campbell also competed in the 100 meters, but did not advance after finishing 13th with a personal best and school-record time of 10.12 seconds.

He was the only UNC athlete to qualify for NCAAs, as the championships are known.

University of Northern Colorado track and field long jumper Kiana Van Haaren competes in an invitational at Colorado State in late March 2025 in Fort Collins. Van Haaren, a junior from Texas, set a UNC record with a jump of 20-5 3/4 (6.24 meters) Friday, April 18 to win the event at the Oregon Open at the University of Oregon. Van Haaren's record jump ranks 23rd in the NCAA this spring, and broke a 10-year-old UNC mark of 20-5 1/4 set by Alisha Allen. (University of Northern Colorado Athletics).

Freshman sprinter Zander Cruzan ran at the regional meet, finishing 15th in the 400-meter quarterfinals Friday with a time of 45.98 seconds. Texas A&M’s Cutler Zamzow was 12th to claim the last qualifying place with a time of 45.93, five hundredths of a second faster than Cruzan.

Woman’s jumper and school record holder Kiana Van Haaren competed in the long jump Thursday. Van Haaren’s best distance at the meet was 18 feet, 11 1/4 inches in the first round, placing 43rd in a 47-woman field. She entered the competition ranked 33rd in the west region with a season-best jump of 20 feet, 9 1/4 inches.
