Southampton have been branded as ’embarrassing’ by talkSPORT’s Jamie O’Hara following their post-match antics against Manchester City.
The Saints earned a shock 0-0 draw at home to City on Saturday to ensure they didn’t make unwanted Premier League history.
Southampton were able to hold City to a drawAFPIt’s taken them to 12 points for the season, meaning they surpass the lowest ever tally set by Derby County in the 2007/08 season.
Southampton have still been relegated to the Championship, but that didn’t stop them from poking fun at Derby after the result.
Taking to X, the Saints included the Rams’ official account into a post that read: “Sorry if we got your hopes up.”
But GameDay Phone-In host O’Hara, who played for Southampton’s rivals Portsmouth on loan, called it a ‘disgrace’ when reacting live on air.
“They should be ashamed of themselves, someone get hold of them and give them a wobble,” he added.
“The game’s gone Jase [Cundy], the game is gone, that Southampton are celebrating this, 12 points!”
Cundy weighed in when he said: “I’m not going to defend that by the way, that is shameful.
“Anyone that’s in charge of social media at a professional football club, they need to consider what they’re tweeting.
“That is embarrassing, I would stay quiet.”
O’Hara also criticised the Southampton players for their reactions at full-time, saying: “I am embarrassed at the way that they’re acting after that game.

Southampton’s X account poked fun at Derby after avoiding their recordGetty“They’re fist-pumping the crowd, they’re walking around like they’ve won the Premier League, like they’ve just won a semi-final to get to Wembley.
“They’ve got 12 points, 12! Get off the pitch, get yourselves home, you’ve embarrassed yourselves all season, you’re walking around the pitch clapping the fans.”
City defender Ruben Dias spoke to the media after the match and vented his anger at Southampton and their defensive performance.
“It’s obviously frustrating to play against a team like this,” he said.
“They don’t even try anything, they just sit and they don’t even want to win the game.
“They just want to be there, and it’s not good for the show, it’s not good for themselves, it’s not good for anyone.”
Southampton are heading straight back down to the ChampionshipGettySouthampton, who beat Leeds United in the Championship play-off final to seal promotion, have endured a dreadful season.
The Saints are already confirmed to finish rock-bottom of the Premier League this season having won only two games from 36.
Saturday’s draw with City is their sixth of the campaign, although defeat has come on 28 other occasions.
Southampton started the season with Russell Martin as manager, but he was dismissed in December after one league win in 16 matches.
Ivan Juric became his permanent replacement but was sacked in April once their relegation was confirmed, with Simon Rusk their interim.
Everton and Arsenal are their final opponents this season before they return to the Championship with Leicester City and Ipswich Town.
