Lewis McGrillen submitted Alan Philpott in two rounds at PFL Belfast in yet another convincing victory on Saturday night.

The 24-year-old grabbed the microphone after his victory and called for a main event clash in his native Manchester for his next fight.

McGrillen started on the front foot in what turned out to be an action-packed first round as the Manchester man sought to catch Philpott with his famous left hand.

Philpott managed to avoid any significant damage early on and the crowd inside Belfast’s SSE Arena couldn’t contain their cheers when the Northern Irishman dragged McGrillen to the canvas at the midway point.

McGrillen continued his relentless pressure and nearly knocked Philpott out cold with a left hook as the latter’s eyes almost hit the back of his head.

Both men continued the momentum into round two as McGrillen prompted the noise with a huge slam inside the first 60 seconds.

He then took Philpott’s back on the canvas and landed some nasty looking elbows, before attempting to put his Northern Irish opponent to sleep with a rear naked choke.

McGrillen was able to remain on his opponent’s back, eventually locking in the rear naked choke and it didn’t take long for Philpott to tap out.

“I’ve always thought I could change it up a little bit,” McGrillen told PFL commentator Dan Hardy after the bout.

“I said during the week people sleep on me grappling, I proved that there and I’m going to keep the ball rolling.

“I’m not afraid of a challenge, I think I proved that whoever gets put in front of me I’ll fight them.”

McGrillen was then asked about how he wants his next fight to play out and he was pretty sure with his response.

He remarked: “Give me PFL Manchester! Do I have to spell it out? I may have failed English in school, but I can spell Manchester. Not PFL Liverpool PFL Manchester!”

McGrillen is now 11-1 in his pro MMA career, having lost just once to Weslley Maia via unanimous decision in December 2023.

The 24-year-old is on a four-fight win streak having defeated Dean Garnett and Alexander Luster in 2024 to win $100,000.

He told talkSPORT.com ahead of PFL Belfast that main eventing a card in Manchester is right at the top of his priority list, while asserting a move to the world stage could be next.

“I would love to fight a main event in Manchester, they need to get an event there, it’s only right,” he said.

“I’ve got a few people in my gym now fighting on the card, and they represent Manchester’s top team in my gym, and there’s a few main fighters you could get on.

“If not, I’ll jump into the global [season], I feel like I’ve completed, I’ve boxed off their European league, I’ve boxed it off, completed it, mate.

“So I just feel like I’d rather just go with the global and have a crack at that – win $500,000, why not?”

In January, the PFL halved its prize money from $1million to $500,000 as part of changes to its regular-season format.

The group stage was removed, with the tournament instead adopting a single elimination format that included a first round, semi-finals and finals.

Dakota Ditcheva, who hails from Sale, Greater Manchester, won $1million in the women’s flyweight tournament last year after defeating Taila Santos.

She makes her PFL return in July in Cape Town for the promotion’s inaugural African season, which is spearheaded by former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.
