Gautam Gambhir declares Virat Kohli his friend
Meanwhile, Kohli and Gautam Gambhir had a couple of on-field verbal altercations in the IPL in the past, but since the former Indian opener joined the national cricket team as head coach, the two have been seen enjoying each other's company. And now Gambhir calls Kohli his friend.
Notably, Kohli and Gambhir once played together for India and shared mutual respect as aggressive match-winners, but things took a sour turn in the IPL. The most heated moment came in IPL 2013, when Gambhir, who was then KKR captain, and Kohli, who was RCB skipper then, clashed mid-pitch after an intense exchange of words during an IPL match.
That rivalry was reignited in IPL 2023, when the two were involved in another on-field spat after a tense Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Lucknow Super Giants match, with Gambhir serving as LSG mentor. After a tense IPL 2023 match, Virat Kohli had a heated exchange with Naveen-ul-Haq during the post-match handshake.

Addressing this spat, the Indian head coach said that such things happen on the field when you represent two different franchises in the tournament, but the media adds unnecessary drama to the story for the sake of just TRP without knowing the whole story and truth.
Gambhir signed off by saying, “When you represent two different teams, you have every right to fight for your team, but after off the field, what kind of relationship you share, people don't need to know, nor will they ever know, and because people have, for their TRP, said a lot of different things.”
