Would this TJ's mix measure up to the homemade stuff? What's the New Trader Joe’s Organic Margarita Mix?
If you're lucky enough to live in a corner of the U.S. where Trader Joe’s sells alcohol, you can grab everything you need for this drink without leaving the store. Both the Trader Joe’s Tequila Blanco and Mezcal get a thumbs-up from me, though if you're a Costco member I'd also recommend the Kirkland tequila blanco. The directions on the bottle suggest a 2:1 ratio of mix to tequila. And for a satisfying summertime mocktail? I tried the same 2:1 ratio using club soda instead of tequila, which made for a refreshing and delightful drink.

What I Thought of Trader Joe's New Organic Margarita Mix
The mix itself is a standout for a store-bought margarita mix. It’s bright, citrusy, and well-balanced, with just the right amount of sweetness to counter the tart lime. It doesn’t have the artificial flavor or aftertaste that you get from other store-bought mixes, which was a nice surprise. Shaken and poured over ice, it made for a smooth, no-fuss cocktail that hit all the right notes.
The bottle lists organic natural flavors and citric acid as ingredients, which I imagine contribute to the orange notes I tasted in my drink. In my opinion, they’re not a great swap for orange liqueur, but I understand the goal is to keep the mix refined and simple. If you wanted to, you could add a little orange liqueur when you're shaking up the drink.
