AUSTIN (KXAN) — A severed rabbit's head was found in a boy's bathroom at Hutto High School (HHS) on Monday, along with a message and a drawing of a dead rabbit, according to the school.
In a letter to parents Tuesday, HHS Principal Ryan Burns acknowledged the incident and said administrators removed the items, but some students had already noticed them.
“We want to assure you that this matter is being taken very seriously. We are working with campus security and Hutto Independent School District police to investigate the incident and find the person responsible,” Burns said in the initial letter to parents.
In an update, Burns said the person responsible was identified, and “appropriate disciplinary consequences” were coming.
KXAN reached out to Hutto ISD for a statement regarding the incident.
James Gazzale, executive director of Communications and Community Relations with HISD, said the district was actively pursuing criminal charges against the individual.
“We want to reassure our families and community that student safety remains our highest priority. We will continue to act decisively and in accordance with our standards and values whenever the well-being of our campuses is threatened,” Gazzale said.
