The Israeli army stated that it used 12 fighter jets to bomb targets in various regions of Syria last night, resulting in the death of one civilian and injury to others.
The Israeli military mentioned on its official account on “X” today, Saturday, May 3, that it deployed the fighter jets to target dozens of sites.
The targets included infrastructure and weaponry, including anti-aircraft systems and ground-to-air missiles.
It added that it will continue to operate for what it termed “freedom of air operations” to carry out its missions and eliminate any threats in the airspace.
Israel claimed responsibility for conducting airstrikes on multiple sites inside Syria on Friday evening, as it flew over the center and northwest of the country.
Also, the Syrian official news agency (SANA) reported the Israeli air force targeting multiple sites in Syria, mostly concentrated in the Harasta area of the Damascus countryside.
The Israeli strikes resulted in the death of a civilian near the city of Harasta in rural Damascus, and the injury of four others near the village of Shat’ha in northern Hama, according to SANA.
Israeli aircraft also targeted various sites in the provinces of Daraa and rural Damascus, with no information about the extent of the damages there.
The Israeli strikes coincided with statements from Israeli officials about their insistence on preventing Syrian government forces from entering the Syrian province of As-Suwayda.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz stated on Friday that the army attacked a target near the presidential palace in the Syrian capital, reiterating their commitment to protecting the Druze minority, according to a statement reported by The Times of Israel.
In response, the Syrian Presidential Office condemned the Israeli bombing near the presidential palace, considering it a serious escalation against state institutions and its sovereignty.
The Syrian Presidency remarked in a statement on Friday, May 2, that this condemned attack reflects the ongoing reckless movements that aim to destabilize the country and exacerbate security crises, targeting national security and the unity of the Syrian people.
The military tension imposed by Israel in Syria coincides with a security and military campaign launched by the Syrian government to withdraw weapons from Druze factions in the areas of Jaramana, Sahnaya, and As-Suwayda, during which it succeeded in reaching an agreement with dignitaries in those areas.
While the government claims it has reached an agreement with the dignitaries of As-Suwayda, military clashes continue between factions in As-Suwayda and military forces that have not yet joined the Syrian Ministry of Defense.
