Treysen Eaglestaff has been a hot commodity in the transfer portal this college basketball offseason, and it looked like his time searching for a new home was up after committing to South Carolina. However, he has reportedly done an about-face and will reopen his recruitment.
According to college basketball insider Jeff Goodman, Eaglestaff revealed on Wednesday that he is backing off his commitment to Lamont Paris and South Carolina. It’s a major hit for the Gamecocks, especially after projected lottery pick Collin Murray-Boyles reportedly decided to declare for the draft.
“This was a difficult decision, but after discussing this with my family this is the best course of action for my future,” Eaglestaff said per Goodman. “Thank you to Coach Paris and the South Carolina staff for recruiting me during this process”.

— Jeff Goodman (@GoodmanHoops) April 16, 2025The veteran who began his career at North Dakota splashed onto the global scene this past season after he dropped 40 points with 8 made 3-pointers in a loss to Alabama. He also dropped 51 points in his conference tournament with 8 made 3-pointers in a loss to South Dakota State.
A career 37% 3-point shooter, Eaglestaff originally praised South Carolina’s offensive philosophy and said he was joining the Gamecocks with an emphasis on his 3-point shooting:
“Coach said he wants me to get a bunch of threes up, and that’s one thing I’m trying to do,” Eaglestaff told TheBigSpur. “Just space the floor as best I can, try to make the play and shoot the ball. I think that’s the biggest thing when it comes to style of play at South Carolina. That’s one big thing Coach Paris emphasizes.”
At the time of his commitment, Eaglestaff was rated a 4-star transfer prospect and the 67th overall player available in the portal per 247 Sports. He was also considering Kentucky, Kansas and Gonzaga at the time of his commitment to South Carolina, so it will be interesting to see if they re-enter the picture.
