MORGAN HILL, Calif. (KRON) -- A man who allegedly assaulted a victim at a Safeway in Morgan Hill overnight Friday was shot by responding police officers, authorities confirmed.
The Morgan Hill Police Department responded at 12:20 a.m. to the Safeway located at 840 East Dunne Avenue on the report of a disturbance in progress. Arriving officers contacted Shaun Hillman, 40, of Van Nuys, and a victim who had allegedly been attacked by Hillman. The victim had sustained injuries in the assault, police said.
Following the contact with Morgan Hill PD, Hillman was shot by officers. Hillman’s actions before being shot by police were not immediately released.
Officers provided Hillman with first aid at the scene before he was transported to an area hospital. His injuries are not considered life-threatening, MHPD said.
No officers were injured in the confrontation.
Hillman was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and resisting a police officer.
The Safeway location remained closed as of 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, a store spokesperson told KRON4, and will reopen once given clearance.
"We are fully cooperating with the police by providing any information that will assist with their investigation," the Safeway spokesperson said.
