After 7 years, you were able to get onto the race. Talk about how you first got into the show, and what kept you going through all those applications.Mike Fiorito: It’s been our dream to run The Amazing Race together ever since we were little kids. For 7 straight years, we’d pour our hearts into a new application — year after year — dreaming of this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. What kept us going was this unshakable belief that one day, it would finally be our turn.Nick Fiorito: Yeah, it’s just in our nature to never give up. We wanted to prove to ourselves — and our future kids — that if you really want something, you don’t take no for an answer. Keep showing up. Getting that final call… it was one of the most emotional and surreal moments of our lives.Let’s jump to where things ended for you. From our perspective, it seemed like you tore through the haybales without being meticulous, losing the bracelet in the process. Walk us through how you approached that Detour after being U-Turned.Nick: We definitely rushed through the haybales. At the time, we thought it was just us against Han and Holden, so we were in full “Race Mind” mode — panicked, rushed, and honestly not thinking clearly.Mike: Yeah, we had no clue Jack and Carson were way behind us. If we had, we probably would’ve slowed down and been more meticulous. But hindsight is 20/20. That rush cost us.As we’ll talk about, you two never gave up — even when things looked bleak. Talk about the emotional rollercoaster as Han and Holden pass you…Then Carson and Jack.Mike: That moment was absolutely gut-wrenching. We had been digging for hours already. Seeing Han and Holden move on...and then Carson and Jack after them? It was heartbreaking.Nick: But we looked at each other and said, “We didn’t come all this way to quit.” Even if we were going out, we were going out swinging. So we just kept digging with everything we had left.We see a tense moment in Japan where you pause to meditate and gather yourselves. How were you able to maintain that mindfulness in such a high-stress environment?Nick: Back home, we both meditate for about an hour a day. And we’ve each done 10-day silent meditation retreats — 10 hours of meditation a day. So we already knew how powerful it is to calm your nervous system under pressure.Mike: That moment in Japan was a game-changer. Taking a pause, breathing, resetting — it helped us come back into the dojo with a clear mind. And because of that, we nailed the challenge.Almost every leg, something seemed to go wrong that dropped you to the back of the pack. Was there a common theme behind the struggles, or were they all circumstantial?Mike: It was a mix — bad luck, small mistakes, and honestly, moments where we got in our own heads. Sometimes it was a wrong turn, other times we underestimated a task.Nick: But if we learned anything, it’s this: The Amazing Race punishes teams who rush and rewards the ones who stay calm and precise. The strongest teams weren’t always the fastest — they just made fewer errors.

Finally, what did each of you learn about the other from racing around the world together?Mike: I’ve always known Nick was mentally tough, but I saw a whole new level on the Race. He had a piece of rice lodged in his eye for three full legs and needed minor surgery after. He didn’t complain once — which is probably why they didn’t show it. He’s a mental beast.Nick: I saw how deep Mike’s heart really goes. No matter how tough things got, he always led with kindness — thinking about others, lifting me up. It reminded me why I’m so lucky to be doing life with my brother. What advice would you give to other teams hoping to get cast, based on your 7-year journey?Nick: Don’t give up. Be unapologetically yourselves. Let your relationship and your quirks shine through. The casting team is looking for great stories — not just strong racers.Mike: Yeah, they care more about your bond than your résumé. If this is your dream, don’t stop applying. Show up again and again until they can’t ignore you. Took us 7 years… but it was worth every second.
