Former Kansas and Alabama guard Rylan Griffen will take a visit to Kentucky next week, according to a report from On3’s Joe Tipton.
Griffen, a 6-foot-5 junior, is back in the transfer portal after spending 1 season with the Jayhawks. Griffen began his career at Alabama, appearing in 73 games with 33 starts for the Crimson Tide from 2022-24. He started 20 times for the Jayhawks during the 2024-25 season, but saw a smaller role than he had the year prior at Alabama.
His minutes dropped from 26.3 to 20.2 and his scoring dropped from 11.2 points per game to 6.3. After shooting 39.2% from 3 during his final season with the Crimson Tide, Griffen connected on only 33.6% of his 3s in Lawrence. Griffen struggled to acclimate himself, but he wasn’t the only Kansas player who struggled during the year.
The 13 losses Kansas endured were the most in a single season since 1982-83.
Mark Pope has plenty to replace from his first Kentucky rotation, and the Wildcats have been quite active in the transfer portal as a result.
The ‘Cats have portal commitments from 4 players so far: Pitt guard Jaland Lowe, Tulane wing Kam Williams, Alabama forward Mouhamed Dioubate, and Arizona State center Jayden Quaintance. Pope also has a pair of 5-star freshmen signed in combo guard Jasper Johnson and center Malachi Moreno.
According to the 247 Composite, Kentucky has the third-ranked transfer class in the country.
Kentucky reportedly set to host former Alabama guard Saturday Down South.
