It all began in the “Human Interest” episode when Bennett conducted an early review of 20-Squad as payback for the fact that Hicks was one of the parties responsible for her husband, Warden Bennett, losing his job due to incompetence.

Tonight, on the “Exploited” episode, things really get dicey, so much so that Hondo (Shemar Moore) confronts her in hopes of saving Hicks’ position at SWAT.
'S.W.A.T.' 'Exploited' (1:29)To which she responds, “I know you two have a relationship but it’s my responsibility to look after the integrity of this department. It’s time to bring SWAT into the 21st century and that starts with leadership.”
But ever loyal, Hondo tells her, “I didn’t come here to throw my hat in the ring for Hicks’ job. I came here to stop you from firing him.”

She still tries to play it off as if it’s a good thing, saying, “Commander Hicks is not being tossed aside. He’s being offered an excellent opportunity. You’re a leader. How long would somebody last on your squad if they disrespected your authority or overrode your orders? Hicks had a good run at SWAT, but it’s my department and I will lead it as I see fit.”
“Well, that’s his problem. Now, if that’s all, I have a meeting,” she says.
Bennett smiles smugly, and says, “It’s always good to see you Hondo.”
