CASTING CHANGES

General Hospital’s ratings struggle comes after major cast changes forced fans to boycott the long-running series.

Nicholas Alexander Chavez, who played Spencer Cassadine, announced his departure in May 2024.

“I’m so appreciative of the opportunity that GH gave me, and I wouldn’t be as busy as I am professionally if it weren’t for the talented producers, writers, directors, and fellow actors,” Nicholas wrote.

Then in June 2024, Michael Easton, who played Dr. Hamilton Finn on the soap since 2016, announced his firing from the series.

He wrote on Instagram at the time, “I’ve always been partial to the Irish good-bye.

“That’s where you leave the party without actually telling anyone you’re gone. But I thought you all deserved better. So I just want to let you know that I just filmed my final scenes here at General Hospital.

“I’ve loved every minute that I’ve been here. I want to thank the entire cast and crew for allowing me to share their stage this past 10 years. Most importantly, I want to thank all of you for the kindness and love you’ve shown me and my family. I won’t ever forget you,” he went on.

“And as I walk out of here for the last time, and with apologies to Lou Gehrig, I feel like the luckiest man on the face of the earth.”

Michael was originally on General Hospital in 2012, but left in 2013 due to a contract dispute before reprising his role in 2016.

Kelly Monaco, who played Sam McCall, revealed her departure in August 2024 after over two decades with the Soap.

She admitted the firing “still doesn’t make any sense,” as her character was killed off.

POPULAR SOAP OPERAS

Soap Operas have been around for decades, as fans tune in every weekday to watch their favorite characters and the drama that unfolds. Popular Soap Operas today include:

The Bold and the Beautiful (CBS) The Young and the Restless (CBS) General Hospital (ABC) Days of Our Lives (Streaming on Peacock) Beyond the Gates (CBS)

‘I WON’T BE WATCHING’

One fan wrote of Kelly’s firing, “This is a sad day. I won’t be watching once she leaves. She is the reason I am watching as is.”

A second said, “The writing for the characters we love is unrecognizable, shows no growth this is why the ratings are down please get it together, figure it out so Sam stays.”

Another said of Michael, “NO!!! Honesty, due to most recent controversial storyline and the great intolerance and disdain for differing opinions and right to free speech, I was probably going to leave GH anyway. Besides, they’ve now lost the last one of my favorite characters! I enjoyed your performances very much. Good luck to you.”

Another comment read, “[General Hospital] is not the same without you… You are incredibly talented and brought such a special light to GH… you are missed!!”
