The Chicago Bears play on Thursday Night Football one week from today. Are we sure it isn’t too late to flex them out of this matchup?
Over at Awful Announcing, Devin Raab writes about the ascent of Bluesky as a social media platform that is gaining its footing among sports fans. You can count yours truly among the wave of new(ish) users sharing their sports thoughts (and other ideas) on the app. Even with this push of recent sign-ups, Bluesky still feels like it is in its infancy stages for sports fans. But with that being said, I am digging the community that we are building there with BN Bears and I hope you join us. If you are someone who believes Twitter/X has become a black hole of ads, rage bait, and trolling, then I feel as if Bluesky is for you. Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson sits down with the Sun-Times to discuss his turbulent season in Chicago. Johnson doesn’t explore much new ground that hasn’t already been covered elsewhere, but it is still worth reading about how one of the team’s captains is navigating what has been a mess of a season. Despite the flaming rubble around him, Jaylon continues to play at a high level. Johnson grades out as Pro Football Focus’ 25th-highest-graded corner among the 115 who have played enough snaps to qualify for the leaderboard. In other words, Jaylon Johnson’s decline has been severely overblown in some internet corners. Oof. This is a sobering exchange between Kay Adams and Davante Adams:Kay: "Would you ever play for the Bears?"Davante Adams: "No."At least @tae15adams was honest ?@heykayadams | #Bears pic.twitter.com/fCMMqEHTkf
— Up & Adams (@UpAndAdamsShow) December 17, 2024Kay Adams: Would you ever play for the Bears?”
Davante Adams: “No.”
So much for that culture that Bears General Manager Ryan Poles thought he was building at Halas Hall. Then again, would we really want someone who actively wants to play with this version of Aaron Rodgers? The Bears already have enough questionable decision-makers under their roof. The Athletic’s Kevin Fishbain lists the Bears players with the most to gain in the season’s final three games. Fishbain covers a ton of ground and I hope you give his story a full read. After reading it, I found myself wanting to add two more names — running back D’Andre Swift and center Coleman Shelton. Swift has been OK this year, but Bears fans have high standards for running backs (because duh!) and the return on investment when you consider the deal he signed in free agency isn’t what anyone was hoping for in 2024. With that being said, a strong close to this season could win him some points in the court of public opinion. © Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images Pro Football Focus grades Coleman Shelton as the NFL’s 12th-best center. His 68.3 pass-blocking grade is the 10th best among players at the position. ESPN’s pass-block win rate (95%) has Shelton at 14th among all interior linemen. Not just centers, but centers and guards. The court of public opinion on the Bears center and the metrics do not line up at all. It reminds me of when James Daniels was an easy target among some Bears fans and analysts. Could this team do better at center? I’d hope that it would try to do so this offseason. But I also hope the Bears don’t make change for change’s sake only to find out that things weren’t as bad as perceived. Remember how Lucas Patrick looked better with the Saints before his season-ending injury? ‘Tis the damn season for gift giving:QB1 spread some Christmas cheer by giving gifts to the o-line ? pic.twitter.com/xASg3iplnX
— Kansas City Chiefs (@Chiefs) December 18, 2024 I wonder what Caleb Williams would get his offensive linemen as gifts? Maybe I shouldn’t ask questions I don’t truly want to know the answer to… Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery is holding out hope that he can come back from what is believed to be a season-ending injury. Monty was such a fun player to root for with the Bears. And even though I won’t root for the Lions’ success (because I am petty), I will not stop rooting for a player like Montgomery who gave everything he had for this team and its fans for four seasons. (Pro Football Talk) NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero polls folks around the league and asks who the front-runners for league awards should be. As you might expect, no Bears make an appearance. The latest installment of Bleacher Report’s Gridiron Heights web series made me chuckle:Every Chiefs win gets more suspicious… Time to take this to court #GridironHeights pic.twitter.com/orWWX2seSy
