Jack Wilshere won’t be appointed as the new permanent manager at Norwich City, talkSPORT understands.

The former Arsenal midfielder joined the Canaries coaching team in October and worked alongside head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup.

Norwich then announced before their final two Championship games of the season that Thorup had left with immediate effect.

Wilshere was placed in interim charge and went unbeaten across his two fixtures in the dugout as the club finished 13th.

The Canaries drew 0-0 with Middlesbrough before a 4-2 win over Cardiff City on the final day.

However, the 33-year-old will not take the job on a full-time basis.

talkSPORT understands that after discussions between Wilshere and the club, Norwich will go in a different direction.

Wilshere has decided he will leave the club, technically by mutual consent, and take some time to consider his options before working elsewhere as a head coach.

In a statement after Thorup’s dismissal, Norwich said: “The club will now progress with its plans of appointing a new permanent head coach in due course.”

Wilshere moved to Carrow Road after his appointment as the Arsenal U18 head coach, which swiftly followed his retirement from playing.

He took them to the FA Youth Cup final in his first season with the Gunners youth, although they were beaten by West Ham.

As talkSPORT reported in October 2023, MLS side Colorado Rapids interviewed Wilshere for their head coach role.

But the former England international remained at Arsenal before he moved to the Championship a year later.

Norwich have missed out on a Premier League return for the third consecutive season.

The Canaries finished sixth in the previous campaign but lost in the play-off semi-finals to Leeds United.

Despite their latest 13th-place finish, Norwich had two of their players selected in the Championship Team of the Season.

Josh Sargent and Borja Sainz joined promotion stars from Leeds and Burnley in the XI.

Sargent scored 15 goals and assisted a further five in 32 appearances whilst winger Sainz netted 18 goals alongside four assists.
