Top US diplomat, Chinese counterpart discuss holding Taliban accountable for their public commitments

US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, spoke to Chinese counterpart Wang Yi over the phone on Sunday and discussed the importance of the international community holding the Taliban accountable for the public commitments they have made regarding the safe passage and freedom to travel for Afghans and foreign nationals. The call comes as the August 31 deadline to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan is nearing. In recent days, the security situation near Kabul Airport from where foreign countries are evacuating their citizens and vulnerable Afghans is deteriorating.
