Republican Yemen Swedish diplomat Hans Grundberg has been named by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to succeed outgoing UN envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths, sources familiar with the matter said. Early this month, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres reportedly notified the UN Security Council members this month of his plan to appoint Mr. Grundberg the next UN envoy to Yemen. Even though The UN has not formally announced Mr. Grundberg’s appointment, who has been the EU’s ambassador to Yemen since 2019, the Yemeni government said it had informed UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres of its approval.
