Goshen, N.Y.: New York Morning Telegraph track writer John J. Fitz Gerald (1892-1963) published the term “Big Apple” for the first time (that we know of) on May 3, 1921. This was found by Gerald Cohen, who published a “Big Apple” monograph in 1991, and we co-authored the revised book in 2011.
