Major blow: Tokyo 2020 Olympics aquatic events cancelled

Lausanne: The international swimming federation, FINA, has cancelled three major aquatics events in Tokyo — which were supposed to double up as Olympic test events — dealing a massive blow to the organisers of the quadrennial Games. A one-line statement on the FINA website read: “The decision of reallocating the FINA Olympic Qualifiers planned in Japan is under review. An announcement will be made next week.” The cancelled test events are the FINA Diving World Cup 2021 (April 18-23), the FINA Olympic Games Artistic Swimming Qualification Tournament (May 1-4) and the FINA Olympic Marathon Swim Qualifiers (May 29-30).
