Before that, Fridays supporting card is set up to get the juices going with three classy Listed races up for grabs, and Andrew is here to take you through the card.

A Major Payne has been narrowly denied on his last two starts, being beaten by a head and a neck. His turn looks to be just around the corner, but he may have to settle for a supporting role again, but this time to WARNING SIGN. Warning Sign sent out just that on his latest start over 1m2f when filling the runner-up spot at Newbury.
The Gary & Josh Moore trained gelding dons first-time blinkers today, and with his extra stamina to call on now dropped down in trip, the stiff Sandown finish will bring that into play. His strike rate isn’t inspiring, but Warning Sign has run well on his both starts at Sandown (second in this last year) and now looks set to try to go one place better than last year off a 1lb lower mark.
WARNING SIGN
Trainer: Gary & Josh Moore Jockey: Mr David Dunsdon Form: 225-02 Age: 6 Weight: 10st 7lb2024 Winner: Cervetto 10/3 – J: Fletcher Tarham – T: Dylan Cunha – Odds: 10/3 Fav

2:25 Tattersalls £40,000 EBF Novice Stakes -7f
There is no form to go on, and none with any standout future entries, so the market will be telling here. However, Charlie Appleby has won two of the last three running’s of this race and has two in here today. He has a clear chance of making it three wins in four seasons with KEY OF MAGIC.
The son of Justify is the choice of William Buick, and with the Appleby team send out notable two-year-old winners throughout the season, he can add another to the list.

3:00 Listed Dragon Stakes – 5f
Staya, Military Code, Rouge Supremacy, Love Olivia, and Solana Rose are all on retrieval missions after failing to hit the frame at Royal Ascot. Out of the five mentioned, Staya comes in with the best form out of Royal Ascot and is in receipt of weight, but you can also forgive some of the Royal Ascot runners, as many had luckless runs at Ascot.
ROGUE SUPREMACY is the one that sits at the top of the ‘give one more chance to’ list. He was travelling well at the halfway point of Windsor Castle, and when making his move just after the halfway point, he was short of room. When he got out, the eventual second drifter caused a concertina effect, where his racing line was closed again.
Once his chance was gone, Daniel Tudhope eased off his mount to fight another day. You can also not get away from how impressive he was when making a winning debut at Wetherby. Ascot should not have left its mark on him, and with a perfect attacking draw, there is every chance that Rogue Supremacy can get back on track.

3:35 Battaash Handicap – 5f
Named after crack sprinter Battaash, this 5f handicap may not have a Battaash like figure in the lineup, but it does have the makings of an ultra-competitive contest. Lexington Blitz was a good second in the Epsom Dash on Derby Day, but he failed to back that up at Royal Ascot.
It’s easy to forgive him that run, but this stiff 5f may not be to his liking. Kassaya was sent off the 7/2 favourite for the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, but her race was over just over two furlongs out when she was badly checked and never recovered. This represents a significant drop-in class, and if she can bounce back here, she will pose a big threat to all.
However, GETREADYTORUMBLE has been winning easily since switching to turf but is unlucky not to have three wins from four in his career. He has been winning in small fields, and the form isn’t up too much, but the manner and ease with which he has been winning suggest that there is a whole lot more to come from this progressive sprinter.
He’s up another 8 lbs for that win, but drawn in 5, which should be a plus. He will be held up off the pace and, with a bit of luck, can come home with a rattle on the outside, continuing the fine form of his trainer Jack Channon.

4:10 Listed Davies Insurance Solutions Gala Stakes – 1m2f
Savvy Victory who is currently the outsider of the field was second in last season’s renewal off a 5 lb higher mark. He has struggled to find that kind of form in his three starts this season, but if he can bounce back to the form he was in last season in first time blinkers, he is weighted to go close.
Checkandchallenge has put in two big efforts in his last two starts. The first of those runs saw him finish fourth in the Group 1 Locking Stakes, and he followed that with ninth place, beaten just over four lengths in the Wolferton Stakes at Royal Ascot. He is the form horse coming in here, but he may struggle to give 10 lbs to WINDLORD.
The Andrew Balding runner has been playing the role of pacemaker for Field Of Gold in his last two starts, but this son of Dubawi is more than capable at this level. His only win came in a novice race at York last season, but he followed home the Tennesse Stud and Hotazhell in the Group 2 Beresford Stakes when sent off the 2/1 joint-favourite.
Before adopting his peacemaking duties this season, Windlord was beaten under a length in a course and distance Group 3. Now that he is racing on his own merits, Windlord can make the most of his weight concession, and double his career wins.
WINDLORD

4:45 Listed Coral Marathon – 2m
Trueshan was a facile winner of the 2024 running of the Coral Marathon and has every chance of winning back-to-back renewals after a creditable comeback run at Longchamp. However, he is getting on in years now, and it is only a matter of time before Father Time catches up with him.
Still, he is not easily taken on at this level, but AL NAYYIR is worth siding with now that he is getting much-needed headgear. The son of Dubawi started life with Tom Clover with a bang last season when chasing home Vauban at York and followed that with a demolition job at Newmarket, only for that win to be taken away from him after a banned substance was found in his system.
This season, he is slowly finding his form again and ran well enough when third to now Ascot Gold Cup hero Trawlerman over course and distance. That race was run at a crawl, but there should be plenty of pace on for Al Nayyir to run down in the closing stages.
Should the headgear have the desired effect, Al Nayyir has what it takes to return to the winner’s enclosure. Coltrane won this in 2022, but he is starting to look a shell of his former self.
AL NAYYIR

Triple Gee got off the mark at the third time asking in a three-runner race at Salisbury. That form is questionable as the odds-on runner-up has shown a tendency to throw away winning chances in the past. He needs to step up on that form, but the step up in distance looks as if it will spark even more improvement.
But the one they all have to beat is PENDRAGON. This has been your typical Sir Mark Prescott improver where Pendragon showed next to nothing at big odds over much shorter distances, but on the back of a gelding operation and a step up to staying distance, Pendragon turned himself inside out.
He bolted up over 1m4f at Ripon on June 19th and backed that up off a lenient 6 lb higher mark when taking care of Hi Ya Mal eight days later by over five lengths. That win was seven days ago, and he has been put up 12 lb for that win. However, he is 2 lb well in here, and even so, that should not be enough to stop Pendragon from rattling off a quick hat-trick of wins.
