LINDA Cohn’s storied career at ESPN could be nearing a turning point.
Despite remaining under contract with the network, the future of the iconic SportsCenter anchor is up in the air following significant changes at the network.
It appears no one’s job is safe at ESPN at the moment with big changes currentlly on-going.
According to The Athletic’s Richard Deitsch, Cohn’s role is still “to be determined” after the end of the Los Angeles-based edition of SportsCenter earlier this year.
Her longtime co-host Stan Verrett is also leaving ESPN this summer after co-anchoring the late-night SportsCenter for years.
An ESPN spokesperson confirmed to The Athletic that Cohn’s upcoming assignments are still being worked out with clarity expected soon.
Cohn, who marked her 30th anniversary with ESPN in 2022, signed a multi-year contract extension not long after that milestone.
Fueling speculation that she’d remain a cornerstone of the network. However, it’s unclear what her role might look like moving forward.
She is the longest-tenured anchor on SportsCenter and celebrated 5,000 shows in 2016
But as ESPN continues to reduce its Los Angeles operations with the late-night SportsCenter now produced from Bristol Connecticut, Cohn’s future remains in flux.
In a cost-cutting move the network informed about 35 Los Angeles-based employees—roughly 13% of the staff—that relocation to the headquarters in Connecticut would be required to keep their jobs.
In addition to her work at ESPN, Cohn made a brief foray into hockey broadcasting last year.
Hosting 15 games for the Seattle Kraken on the Kraken Hockey Network.
It’s possible that Cohn could expand this role as her responsibilities with ESPN hang in the balance.
She revealed that hockey held a special place in her heart when she announced the new career venture in September 2024.
