51-year-old Castle Rock man dead after scuba diving in Hawaii

A Colorado man in Hawaii returned from scuba diving complaining of difficulty breathing. Moments later, he became unresponsive and was pronounced dead by medics. Hawaii Police are investigating the death as a possible drowning, according to a news release from the Hawai‘i Police Department.

Greg Durocher, 51, of Castle Rock had scuba diving lessons with his family at Waiolena Beach Park on Monday afternoon, the release said. Durocher was in the water for about 38 minutes before he returned to shore complaining of difficulty breathing, the release said.

    Shortly after, Durocher became unresponsive, police said. The dive instructor and Durocher’s family began CPR and were met by medics with the local fire department.

    Durocher was taken to Hilo Benioff Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after being admitted, the release said.

    Police initiated a coroner’s inquest to determine the cause of death. No foul play is suspected, officials said.
