South Park fans expecting new episodes this week will have to wait a little longer, and the show’s creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are not hiding their frustration.
Comedy Central has officially delayed the premiere of South Park Season 27 by two weeks, now setting the return for Wednesday, July 23 at 10 p.m. ET.
The move comes amid a tense fight over the show’s streaming rights and the looming merger between Paramount Global and Skydance, which is expected to close by July 6.
The delay did not sit well with Parker and Stone, who responded bluntly on the show’s official X account: “This merger is a shitshow and it’s fucking up South Park,” they wrote. “We are at the studio working on new episodes and we hope the fans get to see them somehow.”

According to a June 21 letter obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Parker and Stone’s company Park County accused Jeff Shell, the incoming president of the soon-to-be-merged Skydance-Paramount, of interfering in negotiations with potential streaming partners like Warner Bros. Discovery and Netflix.
The letter claims Shell used confidential information to influence deal terms in ways that would “benefit Paramount at the expense” of Park County, including allegedly asking Warner Bros. Discovery to shorten the contract term from 10 years to five, and to grant Paramount+ a 12-month exclusive window for new episodes. Such moves could potentially weaken competing bids.
“You did this behind Park County’s back,” wrote general counsel Afshin Beyzaee in the letter. “That self-dealing would have been absolutely restricted if it were done by Paramount itself.”
The letter added: “We hereby demand that you, Redbird, and Skydance immediately cease your interference. If these activities continue, we will have no choice but to act to both protect our rights and discharge any obligations we may have to the public.”
In response, a Skydance spokesperson told THR, “Under the terms of the transaction agreement, Skydance has the right to approve material contracts.”
South Park streams on Paramount+ under a $900 million digital rights deal with two years remaining. Parker and Stone are 50-50 partners in South Park Digital Studios, the joint venture with Paramount at the center of the dispute.
While Parker and Stone remain hard at work on new episodes, the legal and corporate drama has clearly taken a toll.
