“I try all the new Trader Joe’s products so you know what’s worth buying—and this one was a creamy surprise,” Natasha writes in the caption of her post. “The new Risotto Semplice is a frozen, microwavable risotto that’s buttery, cheesy, and has a subtle saffron flavor,” she adds. “For $3.99, it’s a solid option to keep in your freezer.”

Trader Joe’s Risotto Semplice retails for $3.99 per 16-ounce bag and comes straight from the brand’s supplier in Italy. It starts with carnaroli rice—a starchy, medium-grain variety that’s basically the gold standard for risotto—and gets cooked with sunflower and olive oils, onion, veggie broth, saffron (just like a classic risotto alla Milanese), cultured butter and cheese. The result is a cozy, creamy dish with perfect “toothsome” rice and a rich, buttery-cheesy sauce with a hint of saffron.

“Tried it last week with a side of chicken,” one fan shared. “So delicious—I’ll definitely be buying it again.” Another chimed in: “Love it on its own (totally agree, it’s the perfect comfort food), but I’ve also added spinach, asparagus, and the garlic herb chicken sausages.”

To cook, simply heat it from frozen in the bag using a microwave for 4 to 6 minutes. Then empty the contents into a bowl and give it a good stir before serving. You can also warm it up on the stovetop in a skillet over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it’s fully heated through and nice and creamy.

“I gave it an 8/10,” Natasha tells her viewers. “It’s super comforting as-is, but I think it would be even better with some roasted veggies or shrimp mixed in. For $3.99, it’s a solid option to keep in your freezer.”

Don’t just take her word for it—the comments were filled with satisfied customers who’ve already had their way with this delicious Italian find. Snag a bag on your next trip to TJ’s and bring home a truly comforting mix of rich, creamy flavors.
