SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Many Bay Area residents who use public transportation will pay more for their daily commute beginning Tuesday. Transit fare hikes for a number of Bay Area transit systems take effect on July 1.
Bay Area transit fare increases:
Caltrain: 25 cents AC Transit: 25 cents Muni: 10 cents ($2.85) San Francisco Bay Ferry: 3% (10 to 25 cents) Golden Gate Ferry/Bus: 25 centsDrivers who cross the Golden Gate Bridge will also begin paying more Tuesday with a 50-cent fare hike taking the total to cross the iconic bridge to $10 one way. Although, in what may have been a spot of relief for commuters feeling the pain from the fare hikes, a Bay Area-wide Clipper card outage allowed many people to ride transit for free Tuesday morning.
