Tuesday marks one month since Zy’Jae fell into the Genesee River

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Tuesday marks one month since 5-year-old Zy’Jae Saint Pierre fell over the railing of the Andrews Street Bridge into the Genesee River.

Since then, crews have searched the river downstream from Andrews Street with boats, scuba teams, and sonar as part of a recovery mission. The Rochester Police Department, other state and local agencies, and community members have helped with the search.

The memorial on the Andrews Street Bridge is mostly gone but the support from the community can still be felt. Community members left balloons and candles on the bridge to honor Zy’Jae.

Three days after the fall, RPD Chief David Smith announced that the rescue mission had switched to a recovery mission. While some resources were diverted, divers and boats have continued to search the river. News10NBC saw RPD focusing its search on the High Falls area late last week.

News10NBC sat down with Zy’Jae’s grandmother, Latoraya Bryan, who said the family is grateful for the search and holds out hope they’ll be able to recover him.

“I really thank the team and I thank everyone that is praying for us. But it’s hard,” Bryan said.

Zy’Jae’s loved ones described him as an energetic little boy who loved the color red and Paw Patrol. RPD shared the links to these two approved GoFundMe pages to support the family of Zy’Jae:
