Bar a handful of big deals, the summer transfer window hasn’t fully clicked into gear, but things should start moving from 1 July onwards.
Most Premier League clubs submitted their financial accounts on 30 June, the deadline to prove whether they complied with the English top flight’s profit and sustainability rules for 2024-25.
With the paperwork in, the transfer activity should pick up accordingly.
Club World Cup participants Chelsea and Manchester City have been busy, but it has been relatively quiet elsewhere so far.
Here is what every club needs to do this summer.
Sunderland are close to completing the signing of Strasbourg striker Habib Diarra (Photo: Getty)
What do they need? A new Jobe Bellingham. The Championship Young Player of the Year has joined Borussia Dortmund.
Who should they get? A replacement is imminent with a club-record £30m deal for Strasbourg’s Habib Diarra agreed.
Burnley
What do they need? A striker. Zian Flemming was their top-scoring forward with 12 in the Championship.
Who should they get? Could Josh Sargent step up? The American scored 15 goals and assisted five in 28 starts for Norwich last season.
What do they need? A goalkeeper. Illan Meslier was dropped in April after high-profile errors and has been linked with Fenerbahce.
Who should they get? A proven Premier League option would be ideal. Aaron Ramsdale, anyone?
Tottenham
What do they need? A defensive midfielder. Spurs have shipped 189 Premier League goals in the last three seasons.
Who should they get? Joao Palhinha, or a younger equivalent, would reinforce a brittle part of the pitch.
What do they need? An attacking midfielder. Fer Lopez has joined, but is only 21 and can’t replace Matheus Cunha on his own.
Who should they get? Gustavo Hamer is likely to leave Sheffield United after scoring 10 goals and assisting eight last term.

What do they need? A goalscorer. Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo (TBC) will add firepower, but a new No 9 is essential.
Who should they get? Viktor Gyokeres. The Swede knows Ruben Amorim from their time at Sporting Lisbon and has experience of English football.
What do they need? As ever, a new striker. Niclas Fullkrug didn’t lift the curse and doesn’t seem a natural fit under Graham Potter.
Who could they get? Evann Guessand, Jonathan David, Rodrigo Muniz and Ricardo Pepi are among those linked.
Everton
What do they need? With 11 players leaving at the end of their contracts or loan spells, bodies are needed. A new striker is essential, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin one of those departing.
Who should they get? The i Paper understands that Thierno Barry is one of the Toffees’ top targets. He netted 11 La Liga goals in 2024-25.
What do they need? Another centre-back. Marc Guehi could be sold, and Palace need additional cover anyway after losing Trevoh Chalobah in January.
Who should they get? Highly-rated Sporting youngster Ousmane Diomande is on Palace’s radar and would be a coup.
Fulham
What do they need? A new right-back may be required with Kenny Tete out of contract and offered terms by Everton.
Who should they get? Fulham could trade one Dutchman for another with Coventry City’s Milan van Ewijk reportedly on their radar.
What do they need? Yehor Yarmoliuk will take Arsenal-bound Christian Norgaard’s place, but Mbeumo’s goals will be harder to replace.
Who should they get? Celtic’s Nicholas Kuhn has been mooted with the Bees, but a host of clubs, including Como and RB Leipzig, are tracking him.
Bournemouth
Bournemouth sold Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid for £50m this summer (Photo: Getty)What do they need? More defenders. Dean Huijsen and Milos Kerkez have gone, while Illia Zabarnyi could be next.
Who should they get? Someone of Huijsen’s ilk, which is easier said than done. France U21 international Nathan Zeze could fit the bill.
What do they need? Someone to replace Chelsea-bound Joao Pedro in the No 10 role.
Who should they get? Harvey Elliott. Uefa’s Player of the Tournament at the U21 Euros needs regular game time and is suited to Brighton’s style of play.
Nottingham Forest
What do they need? Neco Williams was excellent last season, but a left-footed left-back would be handy.
Who should they get? Cuiabano was tipped to arrive in a triple swoop from Botafogo, but Premier League rivals are reportedly hovering.
What do they need? A wide forward. Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio have returned to their parent clubs, while Leon Bailey could move to Saudi Arabia.
Who should they get? Villa need to reduce their wage bill, so younger players could be prioritised. Tyler Dibling would be a good fit.
Newcastle
What do they need? A right-sided winger to compete with Jacob Murphy.
Who should they get? Anthony Elanga is the top target, but the Magpies will have to up their £45m bid for the Forest star.
What do they need? A right-sided centre-back to partner Levi Colwill.
Who should they get? Guehi ticks a homegrown box after coming through Chelsea’s academy and is available for the right price, with his contract up next summer.
Manchester City
What do they need? A Kyle Walker successor. City have signed Rayan Ait-Nouri but need another new full-back on the right.
Who should they get? Tino Livramento would be an ideal (if prohibitively expensive) recruit to counter-balance the more attack-minded Ait-Nouri.

Liverpool
