Mohammed Siraj starts working on his retirement plan; takes 1st action in Hyderabad

Fast bowler Mohammed Siraj, who is currently part of India’s squad for the five-match Test series against England, has taken his first step into business beyond the cricket field. Siraj launched his restaurant, Joharfa, in the heart of Hyderabad city to explore ventures in the food sector.

Mohammed Siraj had a disappointing outing in the first Test against England in Leeds. The pacer took just two wickets in the match, which India lost by five wickets. Among the current pace attack, Siraj is the second-most experienced Test bowler after Jasprit Bumrah (46), with 37 matches under his belt.

Mohammed Siraj became part of a growing group of Indian athletes exploring business opportunities outside of sports. Cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly have previously ventured into the restaurant industry as well.

"Joharfa is very close to my heart. Hyderabad gave me my identity, and this restaurant is my way of giving something back to a place where people can come together, share a meal, and enjoy flavors that feel like home," Siraj stated in a press release.

Joharfa showcases Hyderabad’s culture through its elegant interior design. The menu at Joharfa includes signature Hyderabadi delicacies such as biryani, haleem, and kebabs, along with dishes like chicken tikka sliders and stuffed mutton parathas.

Mohammed Siraj and Virat Kohli’s Off-Field Bond Extends to Restaurant Business

Siraj shares a strong bond with Virat Kohli, having played together for both the Indian national team and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL. Over the years, Kohli has often been seen mentoring the young pacer both on and off the field.

Notably, both cricketers also share a connection beyond cricket, the restaurant business. While Siraj recently launched his first restaurant, Joharfa, in Hyderabad, Kohli had earlier ventured into the food industry with his chain, One8 Commune.

Kohli’s brand began in Delhi and has since expanded to cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, Pune, and Hyderabad. One8 Commune is known for its stylish interiors, global cuisine, and cricket-themed décor that reflects Kohli’s personality.

Mohammed Siraj Practises Batting Skills Ahead of 2nd Test

India's lower order struggled in the first Test against England at Leeds, with none of the batters below No. 7 managing to reach double digits. Mohammed Siraj remained unbeaten on three in the first innings but was dismissed for a golden duck in the second by Josh Tongue.

Siraj was inconsistent with his line and length in the first innings. The right-arm fast bowler delivered a tighter spell in the second innings but failed to take any wickets.

He has been pushed slightly higher up the batting order, but he has crossed double figures only once in his last 46 innings. India’s lower-order struggles in both innings. England chased down a 371-run target with five wickets in hand on the final day.
