With the second Test between India and England set to begin at Edgbaston in July, Vice-Captain Harry Brook has stunned the cricket world with his bold statement on the star pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. As speculation grows over Jasprit Bumrah possibly being rested for the Edgbaston Test, Harry Brook’s comments have added extra heat to the buildup.
Brook acknowledged Bumrah’s unique bowling style and skill but has not given a clear answer on whether the Indian fast bowler is the best he has faced so far in his career.
England’s white-ball captain said that Bumrah is just like any other bowler, even though he is widely regarded as the best modern-era bowler across the formats in any conditions.

Harry Brook was quoted as saying by the Times of India, “He’s obviously a great bowler—releases it from a slightly awkward angle and has an amazing amount of skill as well. You just try and respect his good balls and attack his bad balls, really, like any other bowler.”
It is being said that Jasprit Bumrah will be rested for the second Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test against England as part of India’s workload management plan, despite the fact that they are trailing by 0-1 in the ongoing five-match Test series.
Harry Brook feels Jasprit Bumrah's possible absence will favor England in 2nd Test
Jasprit Bumrah was the only standout bowler during India’s five-wicket loss to England in the five-match Test series opener at Headingley, where the star fast bowler took a five-wicket haul in the first innings but returned wicketless in the second innings.
On being asked whether the possible absence of Jasprit Bumrah at Edgbaston will be in England’s favor, Brook feels it could tilt the scales slightly in favor of the hosts if the world’s No. 1 Test bowler misses the second Test but insists that their aggressive approach wouldn’t change.
Brook added, “I think we had a good win with him playing last week. We’re going to try and look to put all the bowlers under pressure; it doesn’t matter who’s bowling at us. But yes, if the team’s missing the No. 1 Test bowler in the world, it could hopefully make a difference.”

Meanwhile, Brook has opened up about the England cricket team's mindset during big fourth-innings chases, as they chased down 371 runs to win the first Test against India. Notably, the hosts scored 350 runs on the final day with 84 balls to spare at Headingley.
The vice-captain has further said that they stay calm no matter the target. Reflecting on the Headingley Test, Brook shared how the team remained composed even when India looked set to post a massive total. He said that the England bowlers got six wickets for 40 runs in the third innings and that really helped the batters.
'We were all very calm in Headingley Test'
He also credited Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley for providing a phenomenal start to the chase. The English batter insisted that England backs itself to chase anything, even totals over 450.
Brook signed off by saying, “In the Headingley Test, we were all very calm. We knew we were going to go out there and try and chase whatever they set for us anyway. Everybody knows that we’re going to try and chase whatever total they set us. So, yes, who knows? 450 is a big total, but one thing is for sure, we’ll give it a good crack.”
