It feels like a stat that cannot be true, but Coco Gauff has never been past the fourth round at Wimbledon.
The 21-year-old won the second Grand Slam title of her career earlier this month when she lifted the French Open at Roland Garros.
It may seem like a lifetime ago that she burst onto the scene at Wimbledon as a 15-year-old, beating Venus Williams on her way to round four back in 2019.
That has been a surprising ceiling at the All England Club, also making that stage in 2021 and 2024.
Grass is comfortably her weakest surface, having played just 31 matches on the pro tour – compared to more than 200 on hard courts.
It is a tight turnaround from the clay season as it is, but the American’s grass court preparations took a hit when she lost in the first round of Berlin in what was her first match after the French Open.
There were a worrying 25 unforced errors and seven double faults in her early exit.
Gauff heads into Wimbledon as the second seed, but will need to hit the ground running at SW19 if she wants to get her hands on the Venus Rosewater Dish.
However, Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios believes Gauff has fixed elements of her game that means she will be a contender.
“She has an incredible backhand and she’s an incredible athlete,” Kyrgios told talkSPORT.
“The grass is a little bit faster. It’s a faster surface and I think her forehand swing sometimes can get a bit large on the grass and catch it a bit late.
“But you look at some of the results that she’s had over the last six months and I think confidence wise she’s fixed those existing problems on a second serve as well.
Gauff heads into Wimbledon having played just one grass court matchGetty Kyrgios tipped Gauff to have a strong WimbledontalkSPORT“She had those problems where she was double faulting a lot. She had a bit of the yips on a second serve.
“So I think she’s fixed those and I think you know serving at Wimbledon is the most important thing. You have to be serving well to win Wimbledon.”
Kyrgios also pointed out how young Gauff still is at just 21 years of age and is a two-time Grand Slam winner already.
He continued: “We all forget how young some of these players are. It’s actually ridiculous you know, they’ve won Grand Slams and that they’re just teenagers almost getting into their 20s. So she’ll be fine.
“I won’t be surprised if she goes further than a fourth round this year, but again everyone in the draw is capable.”
There have been seven different winners in the last seven years of the ladies singles draw at Wimbledon and Gauff will be hoping to make it lucky number eight.
Coco Gauff's Wimbledon record
2019 – Fourth round
2020 – Not Held
2021 – Fourth Round
2022 – Third Round
2023 – First Round
2024 – Fourth Round
She is the number two seed at Wimbledon and has been drawn against Dayana Yastremska in the first round.
If she makes it to the quarter-finals, Gauff will likely face nemesis Iga Swiatek.
Swiatek has won 11 of their 15 meetings, but none of those have ever been on grass.
