Motorcycle driver in fatal Denver crash was going more than double the speed limit ...Middle East

The motorcycle driver suspected of vehicular homicide in a fatal Denver crash last week was going more than double the speed limit and weaving through other cars on the road, police said.

Jacob Blackmon, 21, was arrested Thursday on investigation of vehicular homicide after his passenger, an unidentified woman, died in the crash, according to his arrest affidavit.

Blackmon told investigators he was going between 120 and 140 mph on southbound Interstate 25, approaching the Interstate 70 interchange, investigators stated in the affidavit. The speed limit in that area is 55 mph.

He also admitted to lane splitting, which is when a motorcycle rides between lanes of moving traffic, and told paramedics he had been drinking earlier that evening, police said.

The 21-year-old was splitting lanes when he collided with the back of another vehicle, lost control and struck the highway’s center wall, according to court documents.

Both Blackmon and his passenger were thrown from the motorcycle, police said.

Denver officers did not perform a field sobriety test because both Blackmon and his passenger needed immediate medical attention, police said.

Officers took a blood sample to test instead, but the results of that test were not available Monday.

Blackmon posted a $25,000 bond on Saturday and is next scheduled to appear in court on July 14, according to Denver County Court records.
