In a major surprise at the Indian nets session in Birmingham on Saturday, a surprise visitor made his presence felt, and even bowled at the batters. It was none other than PBKS bowler Harpreet Brar, as reported by Indian journalists present at the venue.
Interestingly, Harpreet Brar wasn’t practicing with the team, in the Indian kit, which made it clear, he didn’t join them in any capacity, but just came in for the practice, ahead of the 2nd IND vs ENG Test, starting on July 8. The visitors are in a tricky situation already, where they have lost the first Test by five wickets, despite batting superbly in the first innings.
What makes their case even worse is, their best bowler, Jasprit Bumrah would not be playing all the matches, but only three, to manage his workload. He was excellent in the first innings of the Leeds Test, where he went on to pick a fifer, but went wicketless in the second.
As far as the training session is concerned, it was a day where Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krisna, all bowled. Batsmen like Shubman Gill, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant were absent from the practice, while Sai Sudharsan practiced in the nets.
The team management will have to take a few tough calls before the 2nd match, if Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur still fit the bill, and instead look to include specialists in the team. Also, the team needs to get in the likes of Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav, who could add variety to their bowling attack.
