Scott Porter‘s character on Ginny & Georgia received a lot of backlash for a controversial moment with Georgia — but should Paul apologize in season 4?
Porter weighed in on where Paul goes from here after a tense fight in season 3 led to him hitting the wall behind his wife’s head, which triggered her PTSD from past abuse.
“There is a moment in the kitchen fight that he definitely is apologetic for,” Porter, 45, exclusively told Us Weekly at the Motion Picture & Television Fund NextGen Annual Summer Party on Sunday, June 22. “You see immediate regret on Paul’s face but I think he’s so hurt that he has a hard time mustering the words.”
Porter recalled Paul and Georgia’s (Brianne Howey) final scene, adding, “She apologizes to him in his office and he almost doesn’t want her apology because he’s not ready to apologize himself. So Paul is a very thoughtful person. He has shown that throughout the series.”
Everything to Know About 'Ginny & Georgia' Season 4 After Pregnancy Twist
Looking ahead at season 4, Porter could see Paul making amends.
“If he had the opportunity at some point in season 4, yes he would apologize,” he noted. “That being said, I think he’s owed more of an apology from Georgia. If I’m being honest.”
Paul and Georgia’s marriage started off rocky with her getting arrested for murder. Season 3, which premiered earlier this month, showed Paul drifting from Georgia as he started to question how much she was keeping from him. In an attempt to get Paul back, Georgia lied to him about being pregnant, which is what caused the heated argument.
NetflixWhile Paul and Georgia decided to part ways, their situation got more complicated when she realized she’s pregnant with either his — or love interest Joe’s (Raymond Ablack) — baby.
“Listen, our show deals in high drama. We rarely take the easy way out,” Porter teased. “If you want all of this craziness to continue, it being Paul’s baby is pretty interesting.”
He continued: “The show has definitely let you know that there is something that needs to be explored with Joe and Georgia. If you want to see that to its complete [and] happy ending — which I’m not sure we get on our show — then Joe should be the dad.”
Where Will Each 'Ginny & Georgia' Couple End Up in Season 4?
According to Porter, just because Paul and Georgia aren’t in a good place right now doesn’t mean they couldn’t be in the future.
“You can never say never with our show. There are plenty of relationships that have frayed and been rekindled. Whether it’s a broken relationship within a family or a broken partnership, I think our show has shown that everything can be somewhat rekindled,” he hinted. “It’s gonna take a little while to get there, though. This season was a reckoning for so many of our characters and after the reckoning, you need to do some soul-searching.”
Porter is looking forward to seeing where Paul’s story goes from here.
“Paul needs to do some serious soul-searching. I think you’re gonna see Georgia kind of feeling like she needs to do some as well — because her situation is changing so rapidly,” he said. “So in that search, if they find their way back to each other, I think it would be really, really interesting. But is that what’s going to happen? I have no idea.”
Ginny & Georgia is currently streaming on Netflix.
