There is a lot unfolding in the Steel City.
Between the arrival of stars Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf, along with the ongoing contract dispute between T.J. Watt and the Pittsburgh Steelers organization, it is hard to keep track of everything.
For starters, Watt’s contract.
The former Defensive Player of the Year is heading into the final year of his four-year, $112 million deal, but is looking for another lucrative extension that will pay him his worth.
And as one of the best pass rushers in the league, Watt’s value is at an all-time high.
Since 2023, Watt has the second-most sacks in the NFL with 30.5, trailing only Trey Hendrickson’s 35 of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Outside of an injury-riddled 2022, Watt has recorded at least 11.5 sacks every year since 2018. Last season he had 11.5 and the year before that, he led the league with 19.
The 30-year-old has shown no signs of slowing down.
His new teammate and quarterback believes that Watt and the Pittsburgh front office will get the deal done.
“And once we get our Hall of Fame outside rush backer signed, you’re talking about another guy who’s a leader, not just by his example, but by his words,” Rodgers said on his most recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.
That’s not all Rodgers said while chopping it up with McAfee and his crew.
He also announced that the 2025 season in all likelihood will be his last.
Metcalf is known for his crazy and outstanding work ethicGetty Watt is likely to command $40m over a two or three year extensionGettyAnd made sure to shine a spotlight on his new superstar wide receiver, noting that Metcalf is one of the reasons why Rodgers decided to sign with Pittsburgh.
“DK is a lead-by-example guy,” Rodgers said.
“He’s a big reason I’m in Pittsburgh as well. Conversations that we had, and just the kind of person that he is. At the start of the year, I didn’t really know DK at all.
“He’s like, ‘I work out at 6 a.m. every day.’ I’m like, OK, this guy has discipline, this guy has a drive. I said, ‘How about 8 o’clock because I’m gonna have to drive from Malibu to UCLA?’
“He said, ‘Yeah, that’s fine.’ He’s not just a specimen, but he’s a really solid human being.
“He is a solid dude, and he leads by example. The way he practices. The room goes how the top dog goes, and when DK catches the ball and finishes 60 yards to the end zone, it makes everyone else want to do the same thing.”

Head coach Mike Tomlin and the entire city of Pittsburgh will be hoping that Rodgers and Metcalf can solve their offensive woes that have seemed to plague the team since the waning days of Ben Roethlisberger behind center.
The defense in Pittsburgh, led by Watt, has always been up to snuff, but it’s been the offense that has held them back for what feels like nearly a decade now.
After all, it’s almost been that long since the franchise’s last postseason victory, way back in 2016.
It’s a new day in Pittsburgh, and if Watt can get his contract situation figured out, the Steelers may just be the 2025 dark horse to crash the party of title contenders.
