ESPN captured Murray-Boyles’ reaction to his selection on live television.

However, the 20-year-old appeared not to be happy about getting picked by the Raptors.

The broadcast panned to Murray-Boyles, who rose from his seat, appeared to shake his head, and dropped a F-bomb under his breath as he found out that the Raptors took him.

He then smiled and proceeded to embrace his family members, including his mother, Yvonne.

It’s safe to say NBA fans took notice of Murray-Boyles’ controversial reaction on social media, claiming the prospect didn’t want to land on a team in Canada that is also coming off a brutal 30-52 campaign.

“Don’t blame the dude for not wanting to go to Canada,” one wrote.

“Have fun with the taxes in Canada,” another commented.

“Has to move out of the country, has to be the worst team to get drafted to,” a third said.

Murray-Boyles was quick to downplay the sequence, saying it wasn’t a furious F-bomb but instead one of relief and shock that he had finally achieved the dream of being an NBA player.

    “Just disbelief,” Murray-Boyles told reporters.

“What I said was not a bad thing by any means.

    “Thankful.”

The Raptors’ social media account even chimed in on the moment, posting a pic of a smiling Murray-Boyles at his podium.

“See guys, he’s happy!! [laughing emoji],” the Raptors wrote.

Murray-Boyles averaged 16.8 points per game in the 2024-25 season with South Carolina.
