RUSSELL Wilson’s job as New York Giants quarterback is apparently already under threat.
Wilson, 36, signed a one-year deal worth $10.5 million with the Giants during free agency.
The former Super Bowl champion has bounced around teams since his spell with the Seattle Seahawks from 2012 to 2021.
He spent two years with the Denver Broncos and one year with the Pittsburgh Steelers before landing on the Giants this year.
Wilson is expected to be the starting quarterback in the Big Apple.
But the team apparently already has plans for first round NFL Draft pick Jaxson Dart to take over.
“It is clear that this is Brian Daboll’s guy,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said of Dart.
“After years and years of running out not his guy, he now gets his guy.
“I expect Russell Wilson to take the first snap with the first team in the first game for the Giants.”
“You listen to everything Brian Daboll says, you get an understanding of how far along Jaxson Dart is and where you think he’s going to go.
“It’s clearly a matter of when, not if.”
New York traded up to land Dart with the 25th pick in April’s NFL Draft.
He was the second quarterback taken off the board behind Tennessee Titans star Cam Ward.
They also have veteran Jameis Winston on the roster to complete their quarterback room.
But the former No.1 overall pick is not expected to stand in Dart’s way of taking the starting job.
NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah identified a window where Dart could take over from Wilson.
The Giants are not on bye until week 14 this season.
But they have a small gap in their schedule in mid-October.
And Jeremiah said, “Look at that Week 6-to-Week 7, 10-day gap there after the Thursday night game against Philly.
“Which by the way, with that group in Philadelphia, I’d be okay with him missing that game.
“But that’s kind of where it would be. It would at Denver in Week 7.
“That’s my early prediction.”
